<strong>\u201cAn Evening of Translation,\u201d <\/strong>last night in New York City, announcing <strong>Lisa Dillman <\/strong>as the winner of the <strong>2025 Queen Sof\u00eda Spanish Institute Translation Prize, accompanied <\/strong>by a <strong>$10,000 award<\/strong>, and <strong>Eduardo Aparicio <\/strong>as the recipient of the <strong>Inaugural Literary Translation Fellowship<\/strong>, created in partnership with <strong>Penguin Random House <\/strong>and including a <strong>$20,000 grant<\/strong>. Gwendolyn Harper was named <strong>runner-up <\/strong>for the Translation Prize for her translation of Pedro Lemebel\u2019s <em>A Last Supper of Queer Apostles: Selected Essays<\/em>, recognized by the Reading Committee for an ambitious and intrepid project.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony took place on Thursday, November 20, at the NYU\u2019s Espacio de Culturas, bringing together translators, editors, scholars, students, and members of the general public.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p><u>Translation Prize Winner: Lisa Dillman<\/u><\/p><p><u><br><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lisa<\/strong> <strong>Dillman<\/strong> received the 2025 Translation Prize for her English translation of <strong><em>Season<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>of<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>the<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>Swamp <\/em><\/strong><strong>by Mexican author Yuri Herrera<\/strong>, published by Graywolf Press. Selected from an exceptional shortlist featuring works by Pedro Lemebel, Alejandro Zambra, Mar\u00eda Bastar\u00f3s, and Munir Hachemi\u2014and translations by renowned translators Megan McDowell, Kevin Gerry Dunn, Julia Sanches, and Gwendolyn Harper\u2014Dillman\u2019s winning work impressed the jury with its remarkable literary quality, linguistic precision, and the longstanding collaboration between Dillman and Herrera. As the jury noted: <strong>\u201cDillman\u2019s translation captures the inventiveness and joy of Herrera\u2019s language, rendering it in playful English that mirrors the original, turning ojalateros into anyluckers [\u2026]\u201d. Lisa Dillman <\/strong>accepted the award: \u201cI am so happy and honored to receive this award, to be in the company of so many translators I\u2019ve read and admire, both on the shortlist and on the jury. Thank you very much to the Queen Sof\u00eda Spanish Institute, the judges, and obviously to Yuri Herrera for writing Season of the Swamp.\u201d<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p><u>Inaugural Literary Translation Fellowship: Eduardo Aparicio<\/u><\/p>\n<p><br><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Inaugural Literary Translation Fellowship <\/strong>was awarded to <strong>Eduardo Aparicio<\/strong>, who will receive <strong>$20,000 <\/strong>to support the full English translation of <strong><em>Las frases robadas <\/em>by Jos\u00e9 Luis Sastre<\/strong>. In addition to the financial award, the Fellowship included a <strong>publisher\u2019s forum with U.S. editors<\/strong>, designed to connect participating emerging translators with leaders in American publishing and foster direct pathways for dialogue, feedback, and potential future publications.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Ten honorable mentions, each receiving $500, were also presented to outstanding submissions by Lara Norgaard, Madison Felman-Panagotacos, Marialena Carr, Gabriela Rivero, Mikayla Parson, Madiha Ansari, Shaina Brassard, Slava Faybysh, Will Morningstar, and Christopher Dinon.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p><strong>Manuel Sansigre, CFO of Penguin Random House<\/strong>, presented the fellowship, remarking: \u201cAt Penguin Random House, we believe that translation is one of the most powerful forms of cultural exchange.
